A distinguished 18th-century Swedish Rococo bombé secrétaire desk in beautifully grained bleached oak, with gilt brass hardware throughout. The fall-front writing surface opens to reveal a richly fitted interior — an arrangement of small drawers, pigeonholes, and a central cupboard framed by arched niches in the Rococo manner — inviting the imagination of the letters and correspondence it once held.
The bombé case below swells gracefully on three sides, fitted with serpentine-fronted graduated drawers adorned with finely cast rococo brass bail pulls and escutcheons. The piece rests on characteristic cabriole legs with pad feet, a hallmark of the Swedish Rococo aesthetic. The bleached oak lends the piece a refined, luminous quality — at once substantial and airy — that reads beautifully in both period and contemporary interiors.
Swedish Rococo cabinetmaking of this caliber is increasingly rare on the market. A true collector's piece.
