A magnificent Swedish bombe commode in the Louis XV manner, presenting the full vocabulary of Rococo case furniture: a dramatically swelling serpentine form, scalloped apron, cabriole legs with scroll feet, and rocaille-cast bail handles and escutcheons. The piece is finished in a beautifully aged painted surface — layers of grey, cream, and warm white worn to a chalky, time-softened patina that speaks to generations of use in a Swedish interior.
The bombe silhouette — that characteristic outward swell of the case on both the front and sides — is one of the most demanding forms in the cabinetmaker’s repertoire, requiring exceptional skill to veneer or paint across a compound curve. This example carries it with ease. Two generous drawers provide ample storage while the overall scale makes it equally suited to a grand salon or a well-appointed bedroom.
