A handsome Louis-Philippe period commode in burr walnut, circa 1840–1860, sourced from France. The case is veneered in richly figured burr walnut — its swirling, oyster-like grain bookmatched across four drawers to stunning effect. The warm honey-amber tone of the walnut is complemented by a set of original gilt bronze ring pull handles with foliate escutcheons, lending the piece an air of quiet opulence entirely in keeping with the prosperous French interior of the mid-19th century.
The form is quintessentially Louis-Philippe: a bold overhanging cornice, clean rectilinear case, and plinth base on bracket feet — architecture without ornament, letting the extraordinary wood do the talking. A discreet frieze drawer sits above three generous main drawers, each with its original keyhole escutcheon.
