A charming and beautifully proportioned 19th century French petite guéridon, its scalloped drop-leaf top and turned pedestal base dressed in a layered painted finish of soft white and French blue — the paint worn and crackled with age to reveal the wood beneath, creating the kind of effortless, lived-in patina that no reproduction can replicate. The shaped top features a gently undulating serpentine edge, with hinged drop leaves on either side that fold down to reduce the table’s footprint — a practical and elegant solution characteristic of the French provincial tradition.
The turned baluster column rises from a tripod base of three cabriole legs, each terminating in a simple pad foot and retaining the same layered blue and white painted surface. The overall scale is petite and versatile — equally suited as a side table, lamp table, drinks table, or bedside surface. The combination of the scalloped drop-leaf top, the painted finish, and the compact pedestal base makes this a particularly desirable example of provincial French furniture at its most appealing.
