A deeply characterful Italian antique fragment candlestick, constructed from 18th and 19th century period materials, and distinguished by the striking contrast between its warm gilt-and-ochre column and its chalky white upper elements. The broad, stepped base — raised on three arched feet and built up from a series of molded rings and a wide cylindrical drum — is finished in a warm honey-gold tone, its surface alive with centuries of accumulated gesso, paint, and gilding worn to a mottled, almost geological patina. Above, a small petal-form collar in chalky white painted wood supports a shapely baluster candle cup, its surface cracked and bleached with age.
