A beautiful pair of French porcelain baskets with reticulated (pierced lattice) bowls, hand-painted in green and white with gilt accents, in the manner of the great French porcelain traditions — where this technique of delicate pierced work reached its finest expression in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Each basket features a generously proportioned oval bowl with an interlaced lattice rim, raised on a substantial pedestal base decorated with acanthus leaves and scrollwork in green on white, highlighted with gilding. The reticulated technique — in which the clay is pierced before firing — requires exceptional skill and patience, and the crisp execution here speaks to a confident and practiced hand. Traditionally used as fruit, bread, candy, or dessert baskets, they are as functional as they are decorative. The hand-painted green, white, and gilt palette is fresh, timeless, and quintessentially French.
